Popular festival returns to Lincolnshire National Trust site
A National Trust attraction is offering free entry this weekend. Belton Estate near Grantham, will be hosting its third annual Community Festival on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September and is inviting people to enjoy the whole estate at no cost across both days.
The festival welcomed 10,000 visitors last year to experience dozens of stalls of local handmade goods, displays from community groups, performances by local musicians and dancers, and a programme of free walks exploring the estate.
This year, the event will be bigger than ever thanks to generous sponsorship from LNER, Grantham Town Council, Allison Homes and Belton Woods. Around 50 stalls will be packed with crafts, jewellery, chocolates, dog treats, books, candles and more; food trucks will offer loaded fries, Caribbean and Indian cuisine, lamb burgers and crepes; and performances on stage will include Sleaford Landlubbers, Grantham Operatic Society, Harrowby Singers and many more.
Visitors can also enjoy entertainment and demonstrations by Pilgrims Steel Band, Lincs Dog Training, Ravens Coven Dancing Witches and others as well as live music in both the Saloon and chapel of Belton House.
The festival will be hosted on stage by long-term BBC Radio Lincolnshire presenter Melvyn Prior and will feature a programme of free walks, offering a sample of what’s usually on offer as part of Belton’s regular events. The festival walks are available to book now and include a family-friendly introduction to map reading, beginner photography walks, graveyard tours, and walks all across the parkland and gardens.
Laura Shaw, Community, Participation and Volunteering Co-ordinator at Belton Estate, said: ‘The Community Festival is our way of celebrating everything the local area has to offer so it’s been amazing to see it grow from strength to strength. I really think that this year will be the best yet and I’m looking forward to sharing all of Belton, alongside the best of Lincolnshire, with thousands of visitors.’
As well as the festival, visitors across the weekend will be able to enjoy the largest outdoor playground in the National Trust, the beautiful 17th century house and its collection, the stunning gardens and the vast parkland with its herd of fallow deer, all for free.
