BBC Crimewatch Live to cover the investigation of Lincolnshire fatal collision

October 11, 2024 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment

The compassion, the care, the professionalism, and above all, the heartbreak. BBC Crimewatch Live, 9.30am, Monday 14 October, will cover the investigation into the case of 20-year-old Denii Reynolds, who died in a fatal collision in Lincolnshire in 2021.

Four men, all driving in convoy on the night of the collision, received a combined total of more than 30 years in prison. In this landmark case, they were found collectively guilty of causing death by dangerous driving after evidence showed they were racing at excessive speed prior to the two car collision which involved a Citron C1, in which Denii was a passenger, and a Vauxhall Corsa, which had been travelling in the opposite direction. The driver of the Corsa, a woman in her 70’s, was also seriously injured.

The four men were aged between 19 and 21 at the time. Statistically, young male drivers are far more likely to be involved in a serious collision. Driving at night and carrying passengers: these are listed by the road safety charity Brake as risk factors for young drivers. They also cite speed as a behaviour common in young drivers.

In the programme, her mum describes Denii as her best friend and explains how life will never be the same as she continues “trying to fix a broken family.” Her wish in sharing Denii’s story is that it might help raise awareness of the dangers of irresponsible and dangerous driving. She said “If it can save one more life, I will be forever grateful and I won’t feel then that her death was in vain. I will feel that she has had a purpose and her death has helped somebody.”

To all drivers, please help us irradicate the #Fatal5 behaviours that see us lose loved ones on our roads. These are speeding, drink/drug driving, carelessness, distraction and not wearing a seatbelt.
