John William Bailey (1858-1936)
John Bailey, a native of Grantham, was the son of the late Mr, John R. Bailey, whom he succeeded in the painting and decorating business which bore his name.
For many years he was active member of Grantham Volunteer Fire Brigade, rising to second-officer.
He was a member the Grantham brigade teams who look part competitions London and other parts of the country, and even far afield Belgium.
Although 78 years of age, he had been very active until the last few weeks
Before he died at his residence in Avenue Road.
He had been an enthusiastic gardener and expert poultry fancier.
He won many awards at various shows in different parts of the country. Up the time of his death had been treasurer—a post he had held for many years —of the Old Amicable Friendly Society, being one of the oldest members.
For many years, too. was secretary of the now defunct Grantham Dog and Poultry Society.
His daughter, Miss Bailey, was proprietor the North Holme preparatory school in Avenue Road. Grantham.
