In light of the Coronavirus pandemic, both Stamford Arts Centre and Guildhall Arts Centre, Grantham, have joined together to create a programme of events for audiences to enjoy at home.
Beginning in June, poetry swaps, sketching classes and jazz concerts will all be held online, as well as a very special cabaret of local favourites, not dissimilar to a night in the Cellar Bar at Stamford, that can now be enjoyed from the comfort of your own home.
‘Live in Lockdown’ on Friday 19 June presents a variety of musicians and comedians, as well as poetry. Music will be from Andrew Wood, Tabi Gervis and Sarah Hughes, poetry from Darren Rawnsley and featured comedians are the hilarious Pete Teckman and Sarah Johnson. This specially curated hour-long cabaret will be available to watch live on the Arts Centre Facebook pages at 8pm, and will be available afterwards to watch on demand.
Creative play sessions for young children have also been brought online, in the form of interactive storytelling by Kirsty from Rhubarb Theatre. With a new story each week, available to watch at 10.30am on Mondays, families can join in with the actions at home and make crafts to help tell the story.
There are also sketch classes with local artist Karen Neale, plus film discussions and poetry performances available to join in with. Held on the video conferencing app Zoom, these events are all about audience participation.
They offer a great opportunity to while away an hour in good company, sketching what’s on your table, talking about the best new films, or sharing a bit of spoken word.
Councillor Rosemary Trollope-Bellew, the Cabinet Member for Culture and Visitor Economy at South Kesteven District Council, said: “This online programme celebrates some of the regular, familiar programming enjoyed by our arts centre audiences. With the message to stay safe and keep up social-distancing measures, we will continue our work by sharing safe options to entertain and inspire residents across the district.”
