Arrests, keyless car thefts

Officers investigating keyless thefts of two vehicles have joined forces to tackle this cross boarder crime.

Lincolnshire police are investigating two recent reports. A White Land Rover Evqoue was reported stolen on the 18 October from Barrowby and on 20 Octoberthey received a report of an Audi A7, stolen overnight from Market Deeping.

Lincolnshire police sought the targeting of a vehicle suspected to be involved and which led to the vehicle being stopped and occupants being detained in Cambridgshire.

Joint investigations led them to Norfolk where a premises was located and numerous cars were recovered, including the two mentioned above.

As a result 29 year old Mindaugas Navickas from Sheffield has been charged with conspiracy to steal and has been remanded.  

A further three men have been arrested in connection with the investigation; one man aged 27 from Milton Keynes and two men, aged 60 and 32 from Wisbech.

The arrests and the discovery of the premises came within hours of the report of the stolen A7 and represent swift and proactive collaborative policing.    

Police are appealing l for any information about the Lincolnshire car thefts and are asking local people to check their CCTV if they think they may have captured vital evidence.

PC 465 Dave Sargent would like to encourage the owners of keyless vehicles to consider enhancing security with steering locks or faraday bags and by keeping keys away from windows and doors.
