Anti-social behaviour powers renewed and refreshed

October 15, 2024 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment

Powers to help make local areas safe places to visit have been refreshed across South Kesteven.

Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) are applied to defined areas where issues have been identified that may have a negative impact on the local community’s quality of life.

They provide a way to deter and tackle persistent irresponsible and anti-social by targeting areas where this sort of activity can occur.

South Kesteven District Council has issued the new PSPOs as part of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act.

They relate to dog fouling, alcohol control zones, dogs on leads and excluding dogs from specific enclosed recreational or play areas.

Cabinet Member for People and Communities, Cllr Rhea Rayside, said: “These PSPOs are not about stopping the responsible use of open spaces, or preventing people from enjoying themselves – but they provide the Council with another option to help deal with persistent issues damaging our local communities.

“We know from speaking to people from all walks of life how anti-social behaviour can impact lives, with those affected often feeling powerless to act.

“Councils have a clear and important role to help make the district somewhere that is a safe place in which to live, visit and work – and tackling anti-social behaviour of all kinds is a high priority for SKDC and its partners across the county.”

People who fail to comply with a PSPO face prosecution and fines up to £1,000 or be issued with a £100 fixed penalty notice.
