Supermarket giant Aldi has announced that staff at its Lincolnshire branches will be getting a pay rise for the second time in a year, taking their hourly rate above the recommended living wage.
The business is increasing the pay of its store colleagues across the country, and those working for the company in Lincolnshire will be among those who benefit.
From September, all hourly paid staff at Lincolnshire stores will see an increase of 40p per hour in their current rate, taking their wage to £10.50 an hour. The rate will be slightly higher for those working inside the M25, who will see their hourly wage rise to £11.95.
Giles Hurley, the CEO of Aldi UK and Ireland, said: “Our new rates of pay maintain Aldi’s position as the UK’s highest paying supermarket. This announcement recognises the amazing contribution our colleagues make in serving the local communities in Lincolnshire. Their outstanding efforts have ensured that our customers continue to have access to fresh affordable food, every single day.”
In 2017, Aldi became the first supermarket in the UK to start paying its basic-rate shop floor workers more than the minimum wage.
Aldi also remains the only supermarket to offer paid breaks, which for the average member of staff is now worth more than £830 a year.
