Desmond Kendal-Greene (1897-1955)
A NATIVE of Enniskillen, Northern Ireland, Desmond Kendal-Greene left home at an early age for the famous London theatres.
From 1920 until the outbreak of the Second World War, he starred in many West End productions including The Ghost Train (42 months), the first ever stage production of Dracula, and in total contrast, Twelfth Night at His Majesty’s Theatre.
He also played at Nottingham but came to Grantham in 1941 as canteen manager at BMARCo.
After the war he joined the Inland Revenue, in Finkin Street, and remained there until his death, aged only 56.
He took the local YMCA Players through their teething period to the county festival winning standard they latterly enjoyed.
