Mary Grylls (1924-2009)
MRS Mary Grylls, nee Wallace, was the daughter of Grantham High Street dentist Fred Wallace and his wife Muriel.
After attending Kesteven and Grantham Girls’ School she went to Malvern Girls’ College from there to St Hilda’s College, Oxford, where she read law.
She qualified as a barrister, and after a short time in practice she married Garland in 1948.
They returned to Grantham a few years later, moving to Barrowby in 1958, where they continued to live.
Her time was devoted to bringing up the children and taking on voluntary roles including the WRVS, clerk to Barrowby Parish Council, and the Citizens’ Advice Bureau.
She was a keen Scrabble player, locally with friends, by post and at national level.
