Benjamin Sindall 1862 – 1948)
BUTCHERY was the family business for Benjamin Sindall. Both his father and brothers were in the trade so it was inevitable that he should be too.
Mr Sindall, who lived on Signal Road, opened his first shop in Norton Street.
In 1919, he joined his brothers in partnership to run a similar business in Westgate. His son was also in the trade, running a butchers in what became the Rainbow Café, St Peter’s Hill.
Ben – also known as ‘Beefy’ – Sindall was a founder member of Grantham Butchers Association, although declined to hold any office.
In his younger days he, served with the Grantham Volunteers and the Sherwood Rangers.
He became a member of Grantham Borough Council and was very active in the early 1930s in bringing new industry into the town, including Aveling-Barford, R H Neal, BMARCo and Bjorlow
He was Mayor in 1941.
