Tracie West, Michelle England and the Mayor of Grantham, Ian Selby
GRANTHAM amateur baker Michelle England was crowned Supreme Cake Off winner in a special Christmas cake making competition as part of Saturday’s Food and Drink Fair. Michelle’s entry, iced in the shape of a bed and with a light fruit cake filling, pleased the eye and the taste buds of section judge Tracie West, hospitality and catering tutor at Grantham College. Tracie’s comments concluded: “A fun filled Christmas cake with excellent decoration. Cute and fun” Runner up was Louise Baker from Hougham who produced a ginger bread sleigh complete with reindeer. MP Nick Boles and David Mather, SKDC economic development service manager, judged both other sections, for over and under 16. Winner of the Santa’s Young Baker for 16-plus was Grantham college catering student Declan Wright with a ‘Noel’ iced Victoria sponge cake, whose fellow student Nathan Smith was runner-up. The under 16 Festive Junior title went to Scarlett Armstrong. All were rewarded with prizes of vouchers redeemable in Grantham shops and special commemorative bread boards and wooden spoons. Cakes were then sold off, raising money for charity beneficiary the Grantham Disabled Children’s Society.
