Grantham Meres Leisure Centre has been announced as the host venue for both the Winter and Summer Sainsbury’s School Games Festivals in Lincolnshire.
The Winter Festival will take place on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 and the Summer Festival on Wednesday, July 8, 2015.
1,330 school children are expected to take part in the two festivals from primary, secondary and special schools across the county.
Participants will take part in a number of sports including athletics, badminton, boccia, goalball, golf, hockey, netball, new age kurling, rounders, swimming, tennis and volleyball.
Last year’s festivals were a great success and saw approximately 1,400 school children compete in sporting competitions. Lincolnshire Sport also saw an 82% increase in disability athletes participating in competitive sport.
Children from across the county were able to meet Sporting Champions Tim Baillie and Sam Ruddock, as well as Lincolnshire Paralympic Athlete Jade Etherington and LEAP athlete Lee Cupit.
Jo Purkiss, Sport Project Officer at the Lincolnshire Sport, said: “It’s great to have Grantham Meres Leisure Centre on board as a partner again.
“The support we have from South Kesteven District Council and 1Life is fantastic and the facilities at the leisure centre will provide a great venue for the Winter and Summer Sainsbury’s School Games Festivals.”
The Sainsbury’s School Games in Lincolnshire are organised by the Local Organising Committee (LOC) involving partners from Lincolnshire Sport, Youth Sports Trust, Projectability, National Governing Bodies, School Games Organisers, Arts NK, Local Schools and Student Representatives.
