The council is encouraging people under the age of 18 to register to vote.
Residents who are 16 and 17 are being asked to register in advance to ensure that they don’t miss out on their right to vote. They can do this online or by contacting SKDC’s elections team on 01476 406080.
Reminder letters have also been sent asking people to return their registration forms after the council originally wrote to residents in July.
If residents have already responded they will not have had a reminder. If you have received a reminder letter telling you that you need to re-register, it’s important that you do so.
Local electoral registration staff have been working on the biggest change to the way people register to vote in over 100 years.
The transition to Individual Electoral Registration in summer this year means that everyone will register to vote individually, rather than by household as they have previously.
Whilst most people in South Kesteven will be transferred automatically to the new register, around 10,500 were asked to re-register. The council is focused on ensuring that people have the information they need to take action.
If you weren’t registered previously, you can register under the new system at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
