Tebb, Hazel(1931-2014)
Hazel Tebb, was one of the area’s most dedicated community volunteers.
Her work for Grantham Stroke Club, which she helped to form, earned her the Lincolnshire Citizen of the Year award in 2009.
That in turn led to an invitation to a royal tea party at Buckingham Palace in the presence of The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh.
Hazel was born in Marston and married husband Tom in 1950. They moved to Long Bennington three years later, where the remained.
Shortly after moving to the village she became involved in running the youth club and was a member of the sports and social club, the village produce association and the village hall committee.
For 26 years she was fundraiser for the Darby and Joan Club and was also tea lady for the village cricket club.
When Tom suffered a stroke in 1976 and later Hazel and the then Long Bennington GP were founder members of Grantham Stroke Club, for whom she was a conscientious fundraiser for more than 30 years.
She was also an ardent collector for numerous charities, especially the Royal British Legion, and sold remembrance poppies for more than 30 years.
She worked at Freeman Brown’s bakery at Foston and then the Royal Oak pub, Long Bennington, until 1992.
