Nigel says…
There is a consultation by the Ministry of Defence Friday 22nd November 4:00pm to 7:30pm and Saturday 23rd November 10am to 2pm at the Cricket Club, Gorse Lane, Grantham to inform the potential development for the site following its eventual sale in 2028.
SKDC want to build nearly 4,000 houses, next to the 4,500 they have planned between the site, the new bypass and the A1 at Spitalgate Level.
That could increase the population of Grantham from 40,000 to 60,000 (where is everyone going to park in Grantham to shop?).
The size of the barracks development in this consultation is over 180ha or 460 acres (that’s equivalent to the area developed from Dysart Road to Springfield Road and the railway line to the A1). The Woodland Trust received a Govt Grant to plant 67,000 trees 12 years ago which SKDC want to pull up and build on, while LCC want to plant 750,000 over 10 years.
So in one go SKDC want to undo nearly 1 years planting by LCC.
Where is the joined up thinking between HM GOVT, MOD, LCC and SKDC?
Secondly, the area next to the DVSA Driving Test Centre is contaminated with asbestos – hence the razor wire along the A52. Thirdly, the junction with the A52 and B6403 at Cold Harbour is an accident block spot, more traffic from residential housing would increase the volume of traffic greatly leading to more accidents.
The consultation as been planned and not advertised widely so nobody goes and the Govt gets a free hand.
Not all the site is a brown field site, and wouldn’t be great to have a woodland nearly TWICE the size of Londonthorpe Wood on the doorstep of Grantham?
