A few months ago Grantham Rivercare were approached by a Public Sector team that wanted to help them out as part of a team building event.
For a number of months they mulled over an idea to bring some colour and much needed habitat for wildlife to the eight large wooden planters on The Paddock between Stonebridge Road and St Catherine’s Road in Grantham.
Following permission from South Kesteven District Council and a successful small grant application they were awarded funds to start their Rewilding Riverside project.
On Saturday a handful of RiverHeroes were joined by four Public Sector volunteers to plant over 600 spring and summer bulbs and sow a Bee & Butterfly wildflower mix.
They very much hope this will bring some colour from Spring through to Autumn and with a possibility of doing Bee and Butterfly surveys next year.
100 tulip bulbs planted were donated from The National Lottery Heritage Funded Soldiers from the Sky project, tulips colour-match the distinctive beret worn by British airborne forces.
Also thanks to Boston Seeds for their excellent online advice and quality seed and bulbs.
