The latest update on the Grantham Station Approach.
What we achieved in September
- Installed Metro traffic management system
- Installed new traffic signal ducting to the new traffic signal locations
- Installed new tactile paving and kerbing to the large traffic island
- Installed new tactile paving on the Westgate/Wharf Road footway
- Removed, replaced and reset ironworks
- Laid concrete to the raised areas of the island
- Trimmed sub-base and installed new binder course to the pedestrian routes through the island and to the maintenance vehicle area
- Trimmed back the vegetation overhanging Sankt Augustin Way to improve the pedestrian walkway
- Refreshed the yellow box lining on Harlaxton Road by Old Wharf Road
- Installed new bollards
- Removed the pedestrian guard railing from footway and replaced the voids with new paving
What’s happening in October
Phase 2 – Wharf Road/Station Road traffic island and Station Road footway
- Remove pedestrian guardrail and sign posts
- Remove existing paving from footway
- Remove existing bituminous material, tactiles, edgings and kerbs from island
- Install traffic signal ducting
- Install kerbs, edgings and tactile paving to island and footway
- Install sockets for new signal posts
- Trim sub-base
- Remove, replace and reset iron works
- Lay new binder
- Install concrete to raised areas of island
- Install sign posts and bollards
Phase 3 – Harlaxton Road/Sankt Augustin Way traffic island
- Remove pedestrian guard rail and signposts
- Remove existing paving from footway
- Remove existing bituminous material, tactiles, edgings and kerbs from island
- Install traffic signal ducting
- Install sockets for new signal and sign posts
Current/ongoing traffic restrictions and closures
- Friday 27 September until mid-October – full closure of Station Road West from the private car park south of the residential dwellings to the junction
- Access to premises will be maintained
- There will be no access to Grantham Railway Station from Westgate or Wharf Road
- Temporary traffic signals being introduced at Old Wharf Road, in conjunction with traffic signals being slightly re-located prior to the bridge at Harlaxton Road to ease congestion under the bridge
- Diversion route via Wharf Road / London Road / Station Road East, and vice versa
Upcoming traffic restrictions and closures
- Mid-October to mid-November – closure of slip road off Harlaxton Road to Sankt Augustin Way
- Traffic from Harlaxton Road will be diverted around the island to Sankt Augustin Way (access to Wharf Road from Harlaxton Road via gyratory and slip road from Westgate)
