Michael says…
As I approach the last few years of my time on this earth I, probably like a great many other people, yearn for more simply times.
Yesterday I got fed up with an occasionally dripping tap so decided to fix it. Now, in the good old days I would have taken the tap apart and replaced the washer at a total cost of maybe 5p.
Not so now. My taps have cartridges fitted with no washer. So instead of a 5p replacement washer the cartridges cost over £14. Oh for the good old days.
The only good thing about this saga was that I was able to do the job myself. I doubt if I would have found a plumber willing to come out to such a small job and while I am more than willing to pay the going rate for any job the cost would probably been quite a lot more than the £14 I paid for the cartridges.
Oh well, this posting has made me feel a whole lot better until the next time.
