THE house featured in last week’s Memory Lane is Dudley House, Dudley Road.
It was demolished in about 1969 to make way for Dudley House School.
Taken in 1901, it shows the family of William Lee, son of John Lee who gave his name to a generation of local companies and a pioneer in recycling.
It was truly a story of rags to riches, being born in Norton Street.
Many locals will remember John Lee’s factory along Hands Yard, running alongside the Granada cinema, where rabbit pellets hung to dry.
James Lee, of Bottesford, said their biggest customer was Stetson in the USA, which used them to trim cowboy hats.
The picture shows William and his wife Mary (seated left) with family and friends.
It includes their children Rothwell (who became Mayor of Grantham), Grace, Marion, Elizabeth, Carlton, Godfrey, Holdsworth, Silverwood and Hatfield.
