Shame council not supporting trees…

There’s nothing like a picture of Mrs T’s statue to evoke impassioned responses from both sides, eh?

Look at those beautiful trees in the picture surrounding Margaret’s statue.

We’d like to see more of those planted in appropriate places wouldn’t we? Thankfully, SKDC has launched a scheme called the ‘Coronation Orchards Fund’, whereby community organisations and/or Parish Councils can apply to access funds for the planting of mini-orchards.

BUT guess what I discovered today?

Whereas SKDC agreed to take on the significant cost of maintaining Maggie’s statue, they won’t take on the maintenance and associated cost with any tree planting, even if planted on SKDC owned land.

This will preclude many community organisations and those that fall into the Grantham Town Council wards from accessing this initiative.

What an ill-conceived project the Coronation Orchards Fund is. Enjoy your trees, Maggie.
