So I do not profess to know the inns and outs of what appears to be electric scooters, apart from what I have googled.
Over the past few weeks near me I have either been in my car, or as other neighbours have said when walking, they are nearly knocked over by several young boys under the age of 13 it would seem.
Some look extremely young ie under 10 years old.
Now a car should be driving 30mph ( if safe to do so) on Dysart Road, Goodliff Road, these scooters have zoomed by me on the path, then in front of me cutting in onto the road. Like racing the car.
These are most definitely going over the speed limit. I’m all for fun, but these kids are a going to cause an accident either to the pedestrian, car + passengers.
Not sure if anyone has noticed this around and about. Obviously these parents are not aware of the rules. The other day all four kids had their scooters all in a line across the road so no one could pass, laughing, like * what you gonna do about it*
Here is some of the information I found….. Do you need a licence for an electric scooter? Electric Kickstand Scooter If your electric scooter goes over 30mph it is classed as a full road vehicle, and follows the same rules as a 50cc petrol scooter. This means you need a valid CBT at the very minimum, but that you can also hold a full motorbike licence.
Which means the rules that apply to motor vehicles, also apply to e-scooters including the need to have a licence, insurance and tax. It’s not currently possible to get insurance for privately owned e-scooters, which means it’s illegal to use them on the road or in public spaces.
