A recent headline story by BBC News highlights the challenges of relatives trying to find appropriate support for loved ones requiring care at home and in residential settings. The article features couple Jo and Bill Wilson, who have been together 47 years and are now in the devastating situation of trying to find respite care for Jo, whom is living with dementia.
Professor Martin Green, chief executive of Care England, has called for a restructuring of the social care system. He has been quoted by the BBC as saying, “thousands, if not millions, will be left without support, and the NHS will be on its knees.”
LinCA echoes the plea from Care England for greater investment in social care and adds their voice to the debate. Melanie Weatherley MBE, chair of LinCA has said: “We hear what the government is saying but we are still experiencing the same problems in the Health and Social Care sector. The shortage of staff continues to place strain on services, and there are serious concerns over rising costs due to the rise of inflation, increases in energy bills, the cost of fuel for travel; the list goes on and the pressure is piling high.”
Lincolnshire Care Association (LinCA) represents care and support providers in both the independent and voluntary sectors. The UK adult social care sector supports some of the most vulnerable people in society, and LinCA works closely alongside care providers across Lincolnshire by supporting their delivery of effective services and ensuring a sustainable choice of quality care provisions.
