Grantham Town Football Club has created a fundraiser to cover the cost of a pitch replacement following an attack by crows.
The turf has become infested with Chafer grubs, a favourite of the big black bird.
The club’s match against Worksop Town on Monday afternoon, had to be called off.
Crows took to the pitch overnight to dig up the playing surface in a hunt for Chafer grubs, a small soil-dwelling insect that is typically found in compost or underneath lawn spaces to feed on grass roots.
Grantham now face a race against time to try and renovate the pitch to a reasonable standard for Saturday’s FA Cup first qualifying round tie against Rugby Town.
