South Kesteven District Councillors and council staff welcomed Rotary Club of Grantham guests to Wyndham Park on Wednesday to unveil a plaque paying tribute to the NHS and key workers.
The plaque, installed on the wall of the council’s Visitor Centre, was prompted by the ‘Thank You’ fund-raising concert organised by Rotary last year to recognise the role of key workers during the pandemic.
SKDC staff were praised by Rod Tyler, president of the Rotary Club of Grantham last year, for their hard work in helping the Rotary club committee to put the concert on last summer.
He said: “Today is a thank you from the people of Grantham to the people known as key workers who have looked after us for the past two years. The group includes in no small part the staff of the NHS and care workers.”
Council Chairman, Cllr Breda Griffin, welcomed guests including guests including the Mayor of Grantham, Cllr Dean Ward, and the leader of SKDC, Cllr Kelham Cooke, and thanked everyone involved in the concert.
She said: “We are all only too well aware of how important the NHS is to so many people on a daily basis, but never more so than in the last two years.
“This is our chance to thank everyone who is part of the NHS, all key workers, and our own SKDC staff who worked tirelessly throughout this difficult time to keep key frontline services running.
“We hope that this plaque will serve as a permanent record of Grantham’s thanks and gratitude to all those people and it’s fitting that it is here in the park that hosted the concert.”
Father James Titley, of St Wulfram’s Church, reminded guests of the pressures everyone was under during the pandemic and blessed the plaque – organised by the Rotary Club, Grantham Carnival and Events Group and SKDC.
The plaque inscription reads: “NHS & Key Workers. Thank you concert Wyndham Park August 1, 2021. To place on record the thanks of the people of Grantham for the support given during the Covid pandemic 2020/21.”
