Anglian Water is seeking planning permission to build a temporary road for construction traffic in order to continue building a massive pipeline through Lincolnshire.
Work began this summer on a 16km section of the pipeline between Harmston, south of Lincoln, and Ancaster, which will be followed by a 4km section between Waddington and Harmston.
Work on the final section of the pipeline, from Ancaster to Harrowby, east of Grantham, is expected to start in 2022.
It will form part of 500km of interconnecting pipelines running from north Lincolnshire down to Grantham.
The water board has applied to North Kesteven District Council for permission to create temporary access off the A153 Town End at Ancaster.
The supports planning and access statement gives the following details: “Anglian Water is currently constructing a new buried 25 kilometre potable [drinking] water pipeline as part the Lincoln to Ancaster Pipeline Scheme.
“In order to enable the construction of this new pipeline, a new temporary 18 metre wide construction access is required.
“In order to facilitate the construction of the new temporary construction access it will be necessary to remove a 20 metre section of hedgerow.
“The site will be reinstated once the construction works have been completed, including hedgerow replanting.
“Any impacts associated with the proposed development will be minor and temporary in nature and as such there are no sound planning considerations why planning permission should not be granted.”
The statement adds that hedgerow removal would take place outside of the bird nesting season.
It is anticipated that over the three-year construction period, 40 vehicles will typically travel to and from the site daily – meaning 20 arrivals and 20 departures.
Anglian Water says the pipeline is needed to address the long term water supply and the balance for demand in the different areas of the country it covers.
