Tolefree Parr (C1855-1930)THE Rev James Tolefree Parr was minister.
Born in Oswestry, Shropshire, he was superintendent minister of the Grantham Circuit 1883-1886 during which time Broad Street chapel was built.
He had previously been a minister in Hounslow, London.
His last official visit to Grantham was April 1930, five years after his retirement. He gave a tub-thumping sermon at Commercial Road chapel.
He always claimed his time in Grantham was the best of his career.
He was president of the Primitive Methodist Conference in 1917 and as he delivered his address at Holborn Hall, London, the first German air raid took place, with three bombs falling within 500 yards, killing 50 people.
He collapsed and died at Clapham Common railway station on his way to preach at Nottingham.
