Even though our smartphones update of their own volition nowadays, people still get caught unawares by the clocks changing.
They go forward in spring and then back again in autumn, with the fateful day when you’ll have to manually adjust any analogue timepieces you still have fast approaching.
We’re currently using British Summer Time (BST), which means the next time the clocks they will go back, moving us back into Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) – here’s what time it’s happening this weekend.
What time do the clocks go back this weekend?
This year, the clocks are going back on Sunday 31 October – the change always comes into effect at 2.00am.
It also happens on the final Sunday of October, and by coinciding with Halloween blessedly gives you an extra hour in bed to sleep off the effects of that Saturday night costume party.
The changing of the clocks gives us an extra hour of daylight in the darkness of autumn and winter.
It always happens at the weekend, in the middle of the night, to ensure that there is limited disruption for schools and businesses.
GMT is the standard time zone against all others in the world are referenced, and will remain in place until spring, when we will revert back to BST once again.
The clocks always go forward at 1.00am on the final Sunday of March, which means that in 2022 BST will start on 27 March.
That switch means we get more daylight in the evening, but sadly cuts our Sunday lie-in short.
