Walter Lee (1865-1922)
WALTER Clifton Lee was a journalist throughout his life, the last 12 of which were as editor of the Grantham Journal.
He was educated at Middlemore House, Castlegate and joined the local paper in 1881.
On completing his apprenticeship, he was district reporter for Bourne before leaving for London to join the Cape Argus.
He moved to the Poole & Bournemouth Herald before accepting an invitation to return to the Journal.
He took over as editor in January 1910.
A competent singer, he was a member of Grantham Amateur Operatic Society and also in the choir at Boothby Pagnall church.
He was a regular worshipper at St Saviour’s Church, Manners Street and a member of the Brotherhood of St Gilbert.
While at Bournemouth he won several prizes for shooting.
