John Mapletoft was awarded the British Empire Medal for his services to table tennis yesterday by the Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire, Toby Dennis.
John has over 50 years of coaching table tennis and was instrumental in the establishment of the first ever residential table tennis college at Grantham College Academy. He believes he has coached well over 1,000 youngsters over the years.
He has been involved in the development of many champions, from the early 1970s through to the present day, ranging from schools, county, regional and even national successes.

During lockdown John penned his memoirs which is being launched on September 25th, his book will be available to buy from the Church of the Ascension, Edinburgh Road on this date for £5 with profits going to charity.
