People travelling between Hull and London in the New Year will be better off, thanks to a rail ticket price freeze introduced by Hull Trains.
The rail operator makes the announcement as train fares across England and Wales are set to rise by 2.7% on 2nd January 2020.
Louise Cheeseman, managing director for Hull Trains said: “As the roll out of our Paragon trains continue, we have frozen our January 2020 ticket prices as a thank you to everyone who continues to support us on this journey.
“Our customers will see no change in the price of walk-up tickets purchased on the same day of travel and available advance tickets will remain at current prices.”
The rail company runs 92 direct services a week between Hull and London Kings Cross and has been rolling out a new £60 million stock of bi-mode trains on the network. The Paragon fleet will replace the former Class 180 fleet once fully operational in early 2020.
“We welcome more than ten thousand people on our trains every week. The majority of our passengers are from Hull, but many also join us on their journey up and down the country on the East Coast Main Line. We want people to have trust in our services and enjoy a journey on our new Paragon trains.”
“2020 is our 20th anniversary year and is a major milestone in the history of the business, this prize freeze is another way to celebrate the introduction of these hi-tech trains into service. The Paragon trains will be one of the most hi-tech fleets on the rail network, offering an extra 5,500 seats a week, greater comfort and improved connectivity including USB plugs. They’re also much better for the environment. People who want to have a virtual tour of our new trains can do so thanks to our immersive video on our website.”
Hull Trains is an open access rail operator which means – unlike the majority of other rail companies – it takes full commercial responsibility and is exempt from the nationally-regulated ticket prices which come into force annually.
Tickets are now available until 8th March 2020.
