Grantham patients have told of their experiences due to long waits at local hospitals.
Michael Thorpe says:” I went to A&E Boston with Severe stomach pains last week.
“I queued at reception for 20 minutes, didn’t get to the desk so went home in agony.
“The next day I see my GP and was sent back to hospital and told to wait with suspected appendicitis. I waited 13 hours and was given a bed. Two days later they removed my appendix.
“The care on the ward was second to none. My surgery very straight forward and the staff in the A&E were brilliant despite clearly being overworked.
“There just isn’t enough of anything. Not enough staff, not enough space, not enough beds. The money isn’t there because the money goes to the wrong people, the directors and managers of the trust instead of the front line staff and facilities.
“If Greggs were selling out of sausage rolls by 10 am every day the management would say make more sausage rolls. If the hospital is having seriously ill people not being seen for hours, sat in ambulances queued up and running out of beds every day similar action needs to be taken to facilitate the demands.”
James Cropley said: “ My dad had a major stroke two weeks ago, he was taken to Peterborough hospital and had to wait on the ambulance for three hours before he was seen.
“ He also had to wait two hours for the ambulance to arrive. Luckily LIVES responders were available to see him.
A hospital spokesman said: “We are continuing to see increasing numbers of patients attending our A&E, many of whom are very poorly and need to be admitted to one of our wards.
“As a result of this unprecedented demand, our wards are extremely busy and patients are facing waits to be admitted, causing delays in our A&E.”
The trust is asking patients to use pharmacy or GP services if possible to alleviate the pressure on A&E departments.
