Foodbanks provide emergency food, collected from the local community, to local people in crisis. Grantham Foodbank was launched on 1st July 2011. It was developed under the auspices of Churches Together in Grantham and District and is part of the national foodbank network seeded by the Trussell Trust.
In its seventh full year of operation (January-December 2018) Grantham foodbank has collected 39.3 tonnes of food (2017 – 30.5 tonnes) and has directly distributed 37.0 tonnes (2017 – 29.3 tonnes). This provided 3 days of food to 2527 adults (2017 – 1940 adults) and 1265 children (2017 – 864 children) in crisis. 52 (2017 – 39) registered agencies issued vouchers during the year.
In round terms the foodbank’s income during 2018 was £43,000 and its expenditure was £36,000. The estimated value of the food and other donations in-kind was £68,000. Some 4000 hours of volunteer time went into the project. The end of year balance was £37,000 some of which are restricted funds.
