For the 12 months to end-September the number of vouchers fulfilled by Grantham Foodbank increased from 1,574 in 2018 to 1,831 in 2019 an increase of 16%.
The number of adult interventions rose from 2,313 to 2,589 (+12%) and the number of children from 1,150 to 1,359 (+18%) resulting in 35,532 meals being provided by Grantham Foodbank.
Month by month over the last year :-
December to February and September were the peak months.
September was the busiest month for the Foodbank since it opened.
The number of child interventions increased by 18% in the year. School holidays play a major part in the demand for child interventions. In February the demand surged before and during the half-term week. In September there was increased demand (compared to 2018) in the weeks following the summer holiday.
Most vouchers were fulfilled for people living in Grantham St Vincent’s, Grantham Earlesfield and Grantham St Wulfram’s wards.
Comparing wards on a common basis reveals Grantham Harrowby, Grantham St Vincent’s, Grantham Earlesfield, Grantham St Wulfram’s wards all have more than 100 child interventions per thousand children of the population.
** The Trussell Trust data collection website does not require clients to be identified by gender. By examining the current clients’ first names we estimate that the 898 ‘Single’ category is made up of 222 women and 676 men and, the 312 adults in the ‘Single Parent’ category is made up of 220 women and 92 men.
This table shows the cause of the client’s crisis when it is identified by the referring agency – otherwise ‘Low Income’ is used as a default.
A large number of agencies issue vouchers to clients for the Foodbank to fulfill.
Collections at Grantham ASDA supermarket, donations from local churches and schools all add to the donations from the public. Almost all food goes directly to clients when vouchers from the agencies are fulfilled.
