A new programme of live entertainment will be music to the ears of visitors to Grantham market from now on.
Live music will be a regular feature of the market from this weekend, and there will be opportunities for local bands, singers and musical groups to perform on the first Saturday of every month.
First on the bill are The Harrowby Singers who will be performing on Saturday 7th September from 11am – 1pm.
“Our markets are an important part of our retail offer and bring vibrancy and variety to our town centres,” said Steve Bowyer, Chief Executive of InvestSK, South Kesteven District Council’s economic growth and regeneration company.
“We’re committed to supporting the markets in Grantham, Stamford, Bourne and Market Deeping and ensuring that they remain at the heart of life in the district.
“We want our markets to offer more than just a great shopping opportunity so we’ve trialled various performances to see how they’re received by local residents. We’re now introducing a regular live music and entertainment feature in Grantham to attract more shoppers and make the market much more of an event.
“We’re looking forward to hearing The Harrowby Singers on 7th September and we’d love to hear from other bands, singers and musicians who’d like to get involved.”
Councillor Helen Goral, Cabinet Member for Growth at South Kesteven District Council, added; “Grantham market is a very important part of our town and it also plays a crucial role in encouraging start-up businesses and small traders, giving them the opportunity for future growth.
“Adding a new programme of live entertainment is a great initiative from InvestSK and a welcome boost for the market. I’m confident it will increase footfall, add a new dimension to the weekly event and introduce talented local musicians to a new audience at the same time.”
Grantham market is held every Saturday on Westgate and the Market Place between 8.30am and 4pm and features a variety of stalls including fruit and veg, fresh bread, fish, meat and fashion.
Musicians, musical groups and singers interested in playing at the market should contact Paul Allen, Head of Town Centres at InvestSK, by emailing paul.allen@investsk.co.uk.
