Looked after children and care leavers had their special day at the University of Lincoln on Saturday, when 140 children and young people received awards for outstanding achievements over the last year.
The annual FAB Awards celebrate the success and achievements of looked after children and care leavers, covering art and music, sport, positive activities, personal endeavour and educational endeavour, life skills, employment and training, and personal achievement.
Awards were also presented to ‘Supportive Superstars’, the children of foster carers who have an important part to play in the support of looked after children.
Councillor Mrs Patricia Bradwell, Executive Councillor for Children’s Services, said: “We’re committed to supporting our looked after children and care leavers and help them to fulfil their potential. These awards highlight and celebrate the achievements of these young people at school, university, apprenticeships or training – it was fantastic to share the day with so many inspirational children and share their stories.”
Families, foster carers, social workers and leaving care workers celebrated with children and young people. Before the awards, the morning was taken up with environmental activities with an environmental-based activities, including up-cycling, junk modelling, recycling, making music with trash, giant games with an eco-theme and renewable energy.
