The wait is finally over for the people of Grantham, as Savoy Cinemas announces it will open the doors to its new multiplex cinema on Friday 19th July.
The opening date is just in time for Walt Disney’s ‘The Lion King’ – a photorealistic computer animated remake of Disney’s traditionally animated 1994 film of the same name, starting a packed release schedule of blockbusters that are expected to make 2019 the biggest year for cinema since 1970.
The highly anticipated new addition to the town centre will accommodate a total of 701 seats across five auditoria, with state of the art laser projection and immersive sound, allowing cinema-goers to experience the latest blockbuster releases in the highest quality surroundings.
Savoy Managing Director James Collington said – “We are delighted to be on the home strait of the development of Grantham’s new state of the art cinema.
“It will be a busy month completing the internal construction of the cinema and installing the latest technology. We are extremely pleased to be including the first Barco Series 4 laser projector in the UK, complemented with Dolby Atmos immersive sound to launch our new Vertex 4K format in screen 1.”
Cllr Jacky Smith, Chairman of South Kesteven District Council, said: “The new multi-million pound Savoy cinema and leisure complex will provide a huge boost for the town, the regeneration of St Peter’s Hill and the whole of the district.
“It’s just what the town needs and I am delighted that we now have a date to open this magnificent multi-screen cinema which will make such a difference for Grantham and South Kesteven.
“We have a vision for the town and this top quality cinema plays a big part in that vision. it gives me great pleasure for us as a council to deliver it as part of our investment in Grantham, and it’s even better news that the cinema will be open in time for the summer blockbusters, and the school holidays.”
Grantham will be the fifth site in Savoy’s expanding midlands cinema chain, which currently provides a variety of cinema offerings to suit all audiences. As well as the latest Hollywood releases, the line-up will include live streaming of theatre & concerts, directly from landmark venues including The Royal Opera House.
The cinema will be accessible to all, with regular subtitled screenings, parent & baby screenings, kids club and the immensely popular silver screen, dedicated to cinema guests over 50.
Screen hire opportunities for children’s parties, conferences or large private bookings will also be available.
