Grantham College helping 17-year-old realise ambitions
When presented with the opportunity to train at Grantham College’s Table Tennis Academy, Luc Miller knew he had to seize the moment.
After growing up in Jersey, Luc realised that to fulfil his dream of turning professional in the sport he needed to move to Lincolnshire.
He said: “If there was any chance I could turn professional, then I had to come here.”
Luc’s decision to relocate came mere days before he was due to return to school, but he is thrilled with his achievements since he began training at the academy.
Most recently, the 17-year-old secured first place in the band 3 event at the London Grand Prix tournament.
Luc currently has his sights set on representing Jersey in upcoming competitions in Gibraltar and India, with the opportunity to compete internationally another factor in his decision to move away.
“It’s a dream to play aboard, and that’s why I came to Grantham,” he added.
Having begun life in halls at age 16, Luc admitted it was initially “difficult” to adjust being away from Jersey, but was thankful to coaches Gavin Evans and Natalie Green for their support.
Although he hopes to be able to play the sport professionally, Luc is keeping his options open, including potentially going on to university.
However, he said: “Regardless of where I go in life, I always want to be involved in table tennis.”
