Advisers and inspectors at the East Midlands Building Consultancy (EMBC) have secured their biggest ever success at a top industry event by scooping four major awards, including the Best Public Service Building award for the Wyndham Park Visitor Centre project in Grantham.
EMBC is a building control service partnership between South Kesteven District Council, Rushcliffe Borough Council and Newark & Sherwood District Council.
The partnership sees new developments across the region through to successful completion.
The team beat 36 other local authorities in the East Midlands at the regional final of the Local Authority Building Control Building Excellence Awards 2019, held at The Arena in Leicester in May.
The winners go forward to a national awards ceremony in London on 8 November.
SKDC Cabinet Member for Commercial and Operations, Cllr Dr Peter Moseley said: “East Midlands Building Consultancy was heavily involved in every stage of all four winning projects.
“Jobs like this are done by very good designers and very good contractors, and EMBC plays a big part by offering expert advice on a project from beginning to end.
“We are thrilled with the result and wish all of our finalists the very best of luck.”
Building Control lead officer Rob Howbrook said: “Plans are submitted to us by the architects prior to any work commencing on site, which we carefully check for compliance with Building Regulations.
“We examine a high volume of plans and drawings, structural calculations and specifications and ensure they met the regulations. Once work is under way, our surveyors inspect all relevant aspects of the build such as excavated foundations, drainage and fire protection up until the project is complete and ready for occupation.”
The other successes were: Best High Volume New Housing Development: Rufford Pastures, Edwinstone Project Team: Robert Woodhead Ltd, Joseph Kemish Ltd, Woodhead Regeneration Ltd Best Non-residential Construction Professional of the Year: Andy Stamford, Robert Woodhead Ltd Best Small Commercial Project: RSPB Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre, Nottinghamshire Project Team: Robert Woodhead Ltd, JDDK Architects, RSPB Midlands, Sunderland City Council
