Outdoor cinema under the stars, medieval jousting knights and the launch of a new bar are all part of the action-packed programme of events at Belvoir Castle this summer.
Belvoir Castle has something for adults and children alike to enjoy throughout June, July and August.
The popular jousting weekend returns on 1-2 June, which is back at the hilltop castle for the first time in a decade; visitors can sit back and enjoy an unforgettable outdoor cinema experience under the stars with The Luna Cinema, plus a Great Summer Party will officially launch the Balloon Bar, the newest addition to the Engine Yard selling delicious hand-crafted cocktails and a tempting range of tapas.

A Knight’s Quest, 1-2 June 2019
The Belvoir Knights will be entertaining the crowds with a thrilling jousting tournament full of skills, thrills and plenty of fun at the popular medieval weekend back at the hilltop castle this summer for the first time in a decade.
The weekend is inspired by historical events. The Earl of Rutland in 1612 was known to take part in regular fancy dress events featuring jousting and even hired a designer, one William Shakespeare. Look out for Queen Elizabeth and King James popping back to Belvoir this June to enjoy the jousting as they did back in the day. Tickets are £20 per adult, £10 per child and £50 per family (two adults and three children).
Outdoor Cinema, 14-16 June 2019
This summer, visitors can sit back with a picnic and enjoy an outdoor cinema experience under the stars at Belvoir Castle. Singalong to ABBA hits in ‘Mamma Mia! Here we go again’, enjoy the foot-stomping celebration of Queen in ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, and the award-winning ‘A Star is Born’.
The delicious food hampers are filled with only the best sandwiches, homemade cakes, savoury snacks and, of course, champagne. Picnic hampers must be booked in advance before 10 June. Email thefueltank@belvoircastle.com. Adult tickets are £15.50 and £10.50 for children (3-15 years).
Great Summer Party, 15 June 2019 – The Engine Yard
Celebrate the official opening of the Balloon Bar with the Great Summer Party. Visitors can expect a range of exciting entertainment, delicious gin, family fun, as well as outdoor food and bar. Celebrations start from 15:00, with a range of entertainers, old school games and music to bring the community together. Entry is FREE.
Belvoir Garden and Flower Festival, 13-14 July 2019
Set on the banks of the Belvoir upper lake with panoramic views of Belvoir Castle and the surrounding Capability Brown parkland landscape, visitors can enjoy a quintessential British day out packed with garden inspiration and ideas.
Specialist plant growers, garden furniture, sculpture artists, show gardens, border displays, tools and crafts, as well as Expert Horticulturists will be on hand to answer gardening questions, including Paula Routledge, Alan Mason, Nick Hamilton, Mark Smith, Karen Gimson, Andrew Fisher Tomlin, and Professor David Stevens. Allotment and Wellbeing Ambassador, Annabelle Padwick from ‘Life at No.27’ will also talk about her exciting gardening and GYO UK wide vision and project , plus International Floral Designer Jonathan Moseley will be providing demonstrations. Tickets purchased before 31 May are £12 for adults and £30 for families (2 adults and 2 children aged 5-16 years).
Firework Champions at Belvoir Castle, 10 August 2019
Now in its sixth year, sit back and enjoy a dazzling fireworks display in the grounds of Belvoir Castle. Three of the UK’s best firework companies will compete against each other with a 10-minute firework display choreographed to music followed by a finale display from organisers MLE Pyrotechnics. The event is the only one of its kind in the UK where the audience has the capability to vote for the team they liked the most using their mobile phone. When booked in advance, tickets are £19 for adults and £9 for children (5-16 years).
Open Air Theatre, 20 August 2019
The first-ever Open Air Theatre will take place within the grounds at Belvoir Castle this summer. Step back in time and enjoy an incredible performance of the Jane Austen classic, Pride & Prejudice, by Chapterhouse Theatre Company. Tickets are £17.60 for adults; £12.10 for children and £49.22 for families (2 adults and 2 children).
Capability Brown Garden Tours
This summer, visitors can explore Capability Brown’s lost gardens at Belvoir Castle with the launch of brand new tours. Following a two-year restoration programme led by the 11th Duchess, which cleared over 500-acres of woodland and brought the lost plans of the renowned English landscape architect to life, the brand new open top trailer tours take in the stunning vistas of the Belvoir Estate. Tours start from £10 per person, with the option to add a delicious food hamper, and can be booked in advance by emailing reception@belvoircastle.com.
