Lisa Nix celebrated her 25th birthday in the most gruelling way – by running the London Marathon.
The former KGGS pupil completed the 26 mile 385yd course in 6hrs 4min 52sec, raising £2132 for mental health charity Mind in the process.
She told GM “I applied for a ballet place but didn’t get in so requested a charity place.
“I chose mind as I am strongly for promoting mental health and encouraging people to get the help they need. Many of my friends suffer with mental health and have used services provided by mind.”
For the fundraising aspect she used
Belton Woods Hotel, where she works as a lifeguard, as a hub.
She said: “I challenged the
members to help me clock up 26 miles in the pool (we did 27miles in total! And
I swam seven of those myself!). We also did a 100 mile challenge in the gym.”
Lisa began running in January last year.
She said: “When the date for London was released I felt I just had to do it! After all how many people get to say they ran London on their 25th birthday!! ”
