The Thinker says
I would guess at the 1950s a great deal that you see in the photo sadly is no longer in existence
Another good photo giving you plenty to think about.
1940ish says
I know exactly when it was taken. It was when Grantham had a town centre!
The Thinker says
@1940ish. Good point well put, wasted on many!!
The Thinker says
Also got to say that it looks a far better and appealing place to live than it does today.
1940ish says
to The Thinker, I remember when there where retail shops and banks and all sorts of interesting places. I can even spy Lloyds bank on the corner. Oh Skinners pork shop. with Grace B. .All you have now is bl&&dy supermarkets , charity shops and traffic jams.!!!
The Thinker says
@1940ish. I think those who are in power would call Grantham’s development “fantastic and going to plan” while the common man would call it “Tragic and it’s all going wrong”
Those who plan and decide the outcomes for the town have no understanding of the human aspect and how the changes affect the population.
The High Street is all but finished but to hear the council wafflers talk you would think that it was a booming hub, it is if as you say you like charity shops and the rest of the tat.
I can hardly contain my excitement for the commencement of the “Garden Village” ( Another huge sprawling housing estate) to manifest itself, what was Gainsborough corner will become a more intense hell hole than it is now.
