Grantham swimmer Callum Melville is celebrating after being crowned Scottish National Champion three times for his age group.
The 13 year old, who is a member of Grantham Swim Club but is registered as Scottish, travelled up to Glasgow last week to take part in eight events at Scotland’s National Age Group Championships.
Callum stormed to victory in the 200m breaststroke breaking a Lincolnshire county record in the process and topping British Swimming’s rankings for his age.
The Priory Belvoir student then claimed silver in the 50m breaststroke and another gold in the 100m breast. The teenager, who lives in Morton near Bourne, isn’t just a breaststroke specialist though, and was also crowned Scotland’s national champion for the 400IM and runner-up in the 200IM.
Five intense days of competition saw him return home victorious with five medals in total. Callum is now back in the pool at the Meres in Grantham six days a week, training hard with his sights firmly set on the British Summer Championships at the end of July.
