Oliver Hardy (1920-2011)
Born in Tindal Road, Grantham, Oliver Hardy was the youngest son of Caroline and Fred Hardy.
He attended the National School and the Boys’ Central School, Grantham and in January 1942 married Joan Meadows.
On leaving school he went to work at Arthur Chambers as a draper.
He joined the Territorial Army and was called-up at the outbreak of the Second World War, serving in the 6th Batallion The Lincolnshire Regiment. He served in Dunkirk, North Africa and the Italian Campaign and at one stage was with Army Intelligence.
After the war he returned to employment at Arthur Chambers.
In 1954 he joined BMARC and worked his way up to shipping manager. He retired from the company in 1981 when his wife retired and he enjoyed 30 years of retirement.
