Samuel Dawes (1915-1981)
SOUTHAMPTON-born Samuel Raymond Dawes was educated at Taunton Grammar School and Southampton University where he gained a BSc in mathematics.
While teaching maths at Southend-on-Sea and a Quaker school in Reading, he gained a diploma in theology and an MA in education and psychology.
Armed with his new qualifications, he came Kesteven Training College, Stoke Rochford Hall, in 1955 where he created a mathematics department.
The following year he became head of the education department, followed by deputy principal and eventually principal.
He held the position until the college closed in 1978.
After that he organised a part-time psychology course for Evansville University at its Harlaxton Campus.
He was an active member of the Society of Friends (Quakers)
